Hi - I started my CAPOX chemo therapy yesterday with 315mgs of Oxaliplatin, my side effects- quite unpleasant tingling in areas of the body exposed to cold, fingers and toes, and throat when swallowing; a stiff and sore wrist/back of hand from the cannula; in the evening stiffness in some muscles.
I’m now onto 2300mg of Capecitabine, which seems like quite a high dosage even for someone of 104ks. It’s going to be grim but I just have to get on with it and drink lots of tepid water.
Hi Dewibach. Yes the oxaliplatin is definately the nastier of the 2 but a necessary evil Im afraid. Gloves and a scarf are good to have to hand for at least the first couple of the days after the infusion and a hot water bottle or heat pad for the wrist/hand. I found I got muscle cramps when walking upstairs but they stopped after a couple of days. Did the nurses offer you a heat pack for your arm during the infusion? This sometimes helps but mine eventually became quite painful so I had a picc line fitted which was a lot easier.
As previously mentioned the capecitabine doseage is based on your weight and height but can be tweaked if the side effects are unbearable. I found blackcurrant juice with a splash of hot water to take the edge off my favourite
