Had bloods and CT scan after 2 episodes of subacute obstruction. The consultant phoned me last night to tell me that my liver enzymes are through the roof. He could not see any abnormality on the CT at first glance, but needs a more detailed look. I have to get my GP to refer me for further liver enzyme tests to see if it is coming down. Having to wait over Easter is very upsetting, and I will have to insist to get this done, the NHS being in the state it is. . I am coping, but finding it difficult.
Oh seaspirit44 so sorry you have to navigate this over Easter ! It’s so rotten when you have to put essential tests on hold .
It gives you such a fright but I am holding on to the fact the Ct scan is showing nothing obvious and I am assuming they have seen a lot of scans !
But I know you won’t settle until it’s thoroughly investigated.
Sending lots of love and support .

Thanks court . Among other worries is the huge difficulty of getting a GP referral for bloods in the time frame. Junior drs strike Tuesday as well. Then at least a 2 week waiting list fir bloods. Then getting the result to the consultant. To get it done I shall go to the walk-in at the pvt Hosp and pay. Anything to avoid the stress going up, which sets my gut off!! Thank you as always for your support xx

It sounds so hard to get a simple thing like bloods even in Uk atm. What a horrible result to have to deal with over Easter :(
im not sure what is your definition of ‘through the roof’ ? Do you know your GGT, ALT, ALP and AST numbers .. would you share ?
mine played up big time during chemo such that the onc had to really tailor my doses each week.
I recall highest my GGT got to was 300 ( should be 30) and the others all peaked around 200, 120 and 90 respectively. still not back to normal 9mo on
Apart from our usual assumptions, there are a number of reasons why Liver enzymes might peak, fatty liver disease ( alchoholic or non alcoholic) bone disease, pneumonia, vaccinations , iBS, more info can be deduced from ratios of the enzymes too.
in severe cases of liver disease I have heard of numbers in the 1000’s. Not so good.
hold onto that CT result
xx
Hi Parky2170
My last ALT was 222, down from 236, and my ALP had gone from 416 to 1292. I’m hoping my next blood tests show a significant reduction, but as you have said there can be a number of reasons for the increase- in my case a blocked bile duct.

Parky2170 my ALT was over 1000, and the consultant described my LFTs as deranged. It looks like a hepatitis picture, but I have not had a viral illness. If there are no metsIt could be drug induced. I have stopped paracetamol, which is liver toxic, and am really feeling it! Need more answers! Xx

Parky2170 , I am a retired GP and know about liver enzymes. I had managed to put my concern at the back of my mind, but am afraid that your comment has really upset me. Not the most tactful

seaspirit44 I am so sorry if my response upset you, that was never my intention. At the time of writing I wasn’t aware that you were a retired GP ( and therefore would understand the significance of results) or the level of your actual liver enzymes.
Tact is not one of my strengths, my apologies xx
Went to the walk-in this morning. They were very helpful. They phoned my consultant, and the blood results will go straight to him, and I have a TC at his clinic tomorrow night. He said there were no mets! Great news.
