Guess who's back?

Hi everyone.

As some of you may know I have had a really rough time with chemo, it made me really ill and caused complications I'm still dealing with months later. It was eventually stopped halfway through due to how I'll it made me. I was, however, informed that it had done its job and the cancer appeared to have gone.

Unfortunately a flexible sigmoidoscopy yesterday tells a different story. A large tumour is very visible. Obviously results of biopsies and other scans need to be collated before any further treatment can be discussed. Surgery is currently off the table due to heart problems caused by chemo and further chemo is unlikely considering the effect it had previously.

Mixed emotions for sure but mainly annoyance at having to go through a year of hell for seemingly no result

  • Really sorry to hear that,  , yes you must think it was all for nothing. Sending big ((hugs))

  • Hi

I am so sad to read this . Having gone through such a turbulent year I was hoping you could put this all behind you .

However we are a family who has hit many bumps on the road with this disease so I am very much holding out on your team pulling together a good treatment plan for you .

I take it the cardiologists are very much involved in the planning aspects .

Thinking of you and so wishing things were different for you .
    Take care ,

  • Hi Catdad

Sorry to hear your flexi news. I hope you can find some lovely things to distract you during this difficult time while you await biopsy results and treatment plan.

Would you mind if i ask how/what they previously based the "done job" and "appeared to have gone" on?

  • Sorry to hear this  . As   says, they will surely come up with something after the results are back.

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • My oncologist visited me in hospital after a severe reaction to chemotherapy. He explained that they would be stopping chemo because of the damage it had done but the last MRI- taken a week or two earlier- showed no more tumour. This was in July, no further tests or scans were carried out until recently.

  • Thank you.

I've unfortunately yet to meet a cardiologist. Appointments are scheduled but they keep landing on days when there's a strike so they are postponed.

No one backs the NHS and it's staff more than me, but I'm starting to get a trifle miffed now.

  • Me too but it’s tough right now ! It’s a system groaning under the strain.

Hope you get to see one soon as that would definitely give you more direction .

  • Hi Catdad!

Sorry about your news. This sounds similar to my husband. He was admitted to hospital just before New Year with dehydration and low kidney function and it was found that the chemo had something to do with this. His oncologist saw him too while there and said the chemo would be getting stopped because of it and they would go down `other avenues` as he put it. Unfortunately, he developed sepsis at the beginning of the year which he is still recovering from so no other form of treatment can go ahead until these clears as they think his immune system will still be too weak to tolerate anything. His kidneys he has been told are stable just now but because of the sepsis he had to have a bilateral nephrostomy done which he was hoping to avoid because it means he now has another two bags to deal with and as well as a urinary catheter and a stoma. They thought the urinary catheter would be enough but obviously the sepsis exacerbated the kidney problem and a nephrostomy was needed in the end. Best Wishes

    Vicky

  • Hi Vicky

I also had severe dehydration and reduced kidney function caused by chemo. Bad enough it required a blood transfusion. I hope your husbands oncologist can come up with alternative treatment soon. Wish your husband all the best for me.
