So dad has been home now for a couple of weeks and doing ok ish. He is still very frail. The thing that is upsetting him the most is the smelly discharge he is getting from his bottom ( sorry for beCryg descriptive) is there anything he can do to stop/slow this down. He has tried siting on the toilet to no avail. He such a proud hygienic man it’s really getting him down, he said to my mum today “Cry’m never going to be able to go out again while I’m like this” Cry

any suggestions would be really appreciated x

  • Hi there

I’m sorry your dads going through this. There’s lots of help and support here and with the medics

Can you say what treatment your dad has had

Its very early days and it takes time for the bowel to settle.

    Take care

    1. He had a bowel resection which he was initially due to have a colostomy, ended up with emergency surgery where the surgeon decided to connect the bowel back together, then he leaked, so back to surgery for the corrective surgery with colostomy which he should of had in the first place. He had his initial surgery 6th January x

It may be really helpful to join

there’s so much info and support there.
A resection can cause LARS and your dads been through two operations before having his stoma so I imagine it’s going to take a while to settle
