Hi Fraser1
Congrats on getting your preop and tumour shrinkage.
What operation are you having?
Bowel cancer is very individually treated.
Mine was rectal I had a LAR with an Ileostomy keyhole and open surgery. There’s so many ways to get those tumours in the bin our doctors do the best way to get rid of it. If you click on my name you can read my back story. I was close to blocking so treatment beforehand for me wasn’t a choice. I was just so delighted to feel that pouch knowing the pressure in my back passage was gone. Such a relief.
I joined the stoma support group and had great advice. I travelled abroad, ate out and enjoyed life more than I did with cancer.
The Ileostomy’s no bother
Take care
Ann
Hi just read your story you have been through a lot , surgeon just said he try and remove the tumour keyhole but my have to open with a cut I have had a stoma already because off a blockage when The tumour was found cope well with that I think . Is the ileostomy worse to deal with I have heard it’s more messy also the waiting on the reversal can be a long time because it’s not an emergency thanks
Hi there
They’re a different bag….
I found mine easy once I had a good variety of food I could keep the consistency in good order
Keeping a food diary is great then when you start a little more colour into the diet you’ll know what to avoid. Within two weeks I was eating fish finger sandwiches with butter mayo one white bread. That takes some adjustment all that beige food to begin with. Nuts, skins, and sweetcorn are no nos
Wine and chocolate no bother… in moderation!
I got Whoopi into a routine pretty quickly emptying when third full at most, no food after six pm and I had a really good nights sleep.
Once you have your Ileostomy you can join the stoma group. We did have lots of laughs there talking about consistency of outputs.
Im on the other side now. Reversed at thirteen months. I did think about keeping it
Still a member there though
kind regards
Ann
