Met with consultant and nurse yesterday morning.
4cm tumour which is 'treatable' (first thing he said). He did rectal exam and thought the tumour might be early stage. Still waiting for results of MRI scans on liver and CT-PET. If liver is OK, then they treat the bowel cancer, if not then chemo starts to shrink any and all tumours. Two separate ops.
If liver OK, I could end up having radiotherapy to shrink it, then a 'shave' to take the rest of it out. If I can't have this, then I will have either an ileostomy or colostomy (Resection) - do not want this!
Thankfully this won't pass down to my children. Apparently I've had the cancer for a year.
This could have been a heck of a lot worse. I am being really protected here!
Hello,
great that you have the alternatives and are so positive. Like you, I couldn’t believe how lucky I was. My cancer was picked up by the postal screening programme.
I ended up with a resection (ileostomy) which sounds, and reads, a lot worse than it actually is, so, if you do end up going down that route, don’t worry too much.
best of luck with the treatment, whatever format it takes
