Operation delayed

I saw my consultant last night to discuss my operation to remove rectal tumour, as in December I had liver resection to remove the secondary tumours. Gutted as the scans have now shown a small tumour in the liver which the consultant said was probably there before my surgery but was too small to see. I’ve also got two nodules on my lungs which again were noted on a previous scan but were not of any real concern but they have now grown slightly. So I’ve now got to have more chemotherapy to hopefully shrink these new additions before surgery to the rectal tumour. I’m just feel so defeated as I really thought I just had this one final operation to go and I could get my life back after 18 months of challenges. I’ve been so positive throughout this merry go round of treatment but this has really thrown me. I just can’t see an end to it all. Sorry for the moan. Xx

  • You moan away, that's what this is for! Sending a big (((hug)))

  • Definitely not a moan but I totally get where you are coming from . My mum was a full two years of treatment. Back and forward it went and was very exhausting . However she did get that window of opportunity and it did settle around the two year mark .

We are here for you and will celebrate with you when you arrive at that opportunity to remove it all . Mum is swing round to 14 years this year so please know that it was worth the next big push forward .

    Take special care ,

  • Thanks Court, you’ve made me feel a bit better. If your mum can do it then so can I! XX

  • It’s disappointing to hear these things and it takes time to find your feet . After two years mum got a good break and years of being treatment free .

If I am honest I think the extra chemo played a big part in her longevity but boy we were gutted at the time . However she got through it and the longed for surgery came !

When do you start your next round of treatment  ?

  • Hi Court, not sure as now need to go and see my oncologist, but hopefully soon. It was only last night that I found out they can’t operate til I’ve had more chemo to hopefully shrink the liver and lung tumours. Just want to get the chemo started as soon as possible. Xx

  • I understand . You just want to get through it .
Will you be able to squeeze in a night away ?

  • As it happens we are away this weekend in York! I was all for cancelling it last night but I’ve got over myself now… put my big girl’s pants back on. X

  • Good on you . That’s exactly what you need to do . Even if you need a wee time out whilst you are away , overall it sets you up for the next chapter .

I hope you have a wonderful time . It’s a bump on the road but you will get there .
