I forgot to ask my doctor.

Do I just get a letter with a date for the appointment ot a call.or do I talk to a consultant first?

I dont know what im waiting for

Appreciate any replies

  • I’ve just looked back at my timeline and I saw a consultant 2 days after my doctors appointment so presumably got a phone call. He examined me and referred me for a colonoscopy and the date for that was advised by phone. The process may vary from hospital to hospital and this was back in 2016 but they did seem quite keen to stay within the 2 week guidelines
Hope you hear something soon x

  • It must vary by hospital and area. In 2019 the GP put me on the 2WW path and the first thing I had was a triage nurse phone me from the hospital to ask questions and see if I wanted a proper colonoscopy or a 'virtual one' which is a CT scan with a difference. I went for the real one and it was after that when they found a tumour that an appointment was arranged with a consultant.

Hope all goes well for you, John

  • Hallo, I've just had a FIT Test show blood so told last night I'm being referred 2WW for a colonoscopy.  I'm very worried, didn't sleep and feeling sick today.  Was this what triggered your 2WW?

  • Yes, I had an episode of illness before christmas which Ive had off and on for years where I have severe abdominal pains and just pass blood. After the most recent bout I got a fit test a few weeks later which was positive at 72. Anything over 10 is referred for the 2ww.

Ive beem inder a lot of stress with this as well so know exactly how you are feeling. Its been a week today since I was referred and still not heard anything even though Doc chased it up.

I hope you manage to get your mind at rest during your wait.

My doctor said most times its piles or fissures

  • Thanks for replaying - it helps doesn't it!  My FIT was 146  I'm hoping it is piles, which I have from radiotherapy 13yrs ago.  It comes as a shock though, and difficult until the next investigation via colonoscopy.

I'll try to relax thanks, you too.
