My husband is due husband 1st course of chemo on Thursday.  Should we keep the heating on all day ?

  • Personally, I would just keep to your normal living standards. I am not on Chemo, but keep my heating on all day - simply because I like to feel warm. When I was on Chemo, it was during the summer of 2019. However, I didn't  feel cold then, nor needed to turn my heating on.

  • I have had mine on a lot, but I felt the cold before chemo so not sure it has got worse. I do tend to keep a blanket/throw downstairs with me to use as well, and a hot water bottle is great!

I guess it's probably a case of waiting and seeing how your husband feels.

I hope his first course of chemo goes okay

    Sorry not very helpful!

  • I'd suggest heat the person as priority - thermal baselayers, fleece blankets or oversized wearable fleece blanket/hoodie, hat, gloves, scarf, warm slippers, etc.

Managing core body temp is important to me! Plus it's heaps cheaper Grin

  • Thank you. He doesn't feel the cold normally, so we.ll see how he is. We have throws on the sofa s too.thanks

  • I use. A heated throw for my mum . If she gets a bit chilly she heats herself . It’s on a timer so no chance of overheating but gives her a bit of comfort .

I wish him all the very best with his treatment .

  • Which chemo will he be on? If it contains oxaliplatin you may want to keep on the heating all day, as it may make him very sensitive to cold air.

  • My husband is on his second course if chemo, he finds that hands and feet feel cold in spite of the fact that to others they are warm. We need to keep the room where he is very warm. The rest of the house a “normal” temperature.
I guess you have to sit and see what happens? I have found that we have had to be reactive in all our reponses as we are in the unknown xx

    goid luck xx

  • My hubby recently started complaining of the cold. I reset all the heating no to be on so much when he was recently in hospital but since he has come home,he said he feels the cold. I could be sitting `just nice` but he is always saying he's cold and asks if the heating is on.

  • I joined to ask what temperature worked for your husband. I’m dealing with similar issues and unsure what to do. My doctor advised keeping the house cooler rather than warmer.
