Hi there, been off grid whilst awaiting dads # 2nd date for surgery. So, he got the Op last Friday & his Consultant called me 8pm to say, although took a lot longer than anticipated, he was pleased with how it went.
Dad was chirpy on phone the next day, though later he seemed confused & understandably tired. Kept in touch via text & the odd phone call. Couldn't get through to speak with anyone Sat/Sun but a very helpful Nurse updated me today. Dad called this eve and had a little chat...not keen on his liquidy diet & having difficulty sleeping.
I'm going to visit tomorrow. Anyone any ideas / experience of good foods as he adjust to his stoma bag? I've got 'booklets to read' but have found this group great with help and support so far.
Hope you are all doing ok. Best wishes x
Hi Bluestar
Thanks for sharing your great news. I wish you all well
I had an Ileostomy which is different to a colostomy.
But early days I was told to have mint tea and suck on mints. I had tiny mints my friend bought me I was so appreciative.
I think food wise I stuck to my hospital diet and drank isotonic sports drinks. Non fizzy I bought the own brand type before when I went in. It’s important to drink lots. I worked up to four to six pints a day. But in hospital I had the sports and Vimto eating from their choices. The nurses will say high carbs, salt and sugar intake raised but that’s all when he gets home.
Hope all goes well on your visit. I think a hug will be the most appreciated gift
Enjoy
Keep us updated
