Hi!
Im 22 years old. In 2017 I got some problems with my bowel because the food I ate was not melting very well and I also got diarrhea more frequently and I also had bowel movements ofter. Because the food was not melting good I thought that red food was blood so I went to the doctor and they did a colonoscopy and rectoscopy but they couldnt find anything wrong and they said its just IBS.

Since then I have had the same problems. BUT three weeks ago after a bowel movement i noticed red blood on the paper when I wiped, and I had blood in stool for 2 weeks in a row everytime I had a bowel movement. Sometimes the blood was just in the toilet water, sometimes ON the stool like it coated the stool, and sometimes mixed with the stool when I had diarrhea. I went to the doctor and he asked me some question and felt my stomach and also checked the anal with his finger to see if it could have been hemmoroids. But he could not feel anything. He said that I am young and I have done a colonoscopy 4 years ago so I should not worry and sent me home. Since one week ago I have not noticed any blood in my stool that could be visible.

Do you think that I should worry for cancer, are the chances high to have cancer because of my age and that I did a colonoscopy only 4 years ago and they couldnt even find a polyp, doesnt it take at least 5-10 years for a polyp to develop to cancer? No family history of bowel cancer what I know about.

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum . I think it is absolutely essential that anyone knows the reason for bleeding irrespective of their age .

There are many reasons for bleeding that are not cancer related but that does not mean you don’t need to pay attention or have some other treatment despite not being life limiting .
