Hi does anyone having any tips for coping with pins and needles/tingling mostly in hands but beginning to get in feet too plus sore skin on tips of fingers.

My dose has recently been reduced by 25% as the side effects were so severe.  Due to the reduction I know I have to just cope with the side effects.  It is hard though.  I am only on my 3rd cycle out of 8 so I have a long way to go yet and fear these side effects will get worse each cycle.

Many thanks in advance.

Trish

  • Oven gloves are great for accessing the fridge or freezer.I used a warm hot water bottle or sat on my hands a lot.

Moisturiser is a must especially on the cracks on finger tips

Of course gloves when out and about.I know some people wear them in the house as well. and beware of cold taps and car door handles.

    Hang in there

    All the best

  • if it gets too bad prehaps they would consider I/V 5FU to try to avoid further hand and foot issues?

  • Thank you Parky. I have not heard of I/V 5FU but will look into it and mention it to my oncologist if necessary.

  • Hi Trish. The effects of Capacetibine can be a pain. I found that the best cream for the peeling skin was Dermalex Repair + Restore. Having tried the Udderly Smooth cream from Amazon, which is recommended by the hospital and other people  I found it to be useless. My pharmacist said that palmar plantar occurs usually in the 3rd cycle for reasons he couldn't explain. I found that slathering my hands and feet with Dermalex and wearing cotton moisturising gloves and socks helped. Hope this is helpful.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Kim, thank you so much for this information which is much appreciated.   Not sure what stage you are at with your treatment or if you have finished it.  Interested to know has the palmar plantar gone away now?

    Wishing you all the best.

  • Dont know if this helps. Before I started my capox I had a blood test which showed that I was a candidate for palmar plantar. It did mostly disappear after treatment finished.I am just left with the fingerprint thing, where sometimes its difficult to swipe on a phone screen.but never mind I could always become a bank robber and no one could check my fingerprintsJoyJoyJoy

Keep moisturising and keep your hands and feet warm especially now the weather is getting colder.

Ps I never had it in my feet for which I am grateful as a friend said it felt like walking on marbles whilst it lasted.
