So my fiance was back at the hospital today for his CT scan results which shows the chemo is definitely working but hes came home ever so disappointed as he asked about when he'd be able to go back to work cause other than his chemo week is feelin ok in himself. I was just wondering if anyone is going through the same situation or has been and is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Hes 40 years old stage 4 cancer of his rectum which is in his lymph nodes n abit on his lungs. Were also getting married in may next year so need the money im working as much as i can as we have 3 young children also. Also hes being put forward for his op but was told the surgeon could refuse it?? Im really angry about that why would it gets refused?

Thankyou and sorry for the rant

  • Hi  and you rant all you like! It’s great news that the chemo is working and will hopefully continue to do so. What does your fiancé do for a living? I worked part-time in an office when I was having my chemo and my oncologist was happy for me to carry on doing that but if I’d been something like a school teacher and potentially in contact with lots of coughs and sneezes then she might have thought differently?
It’s a bit hard to comment on the operation bit - did they mean that the surgeon might refuse to do it because the chemo is working so well that there might be potentially further shrinkage or maybe they want to deal with the lung bits before the rectum? Perhaps he could ring his colorectal support nurse to explain it a bit further?

Yes there is light at the end of the tunnel and treatment is improving all the time it can unfortunately just be a bit of a long drawn out procedure but please focus on the fact that the chemo is working and that’s a good thing

    Take care
