Hello wise ones,
I'm looking for some advice - not necessarily 'medical' advice, but your own lived experience if anyone has it.
I've undergone both colon (3/4 of colon removed) and liver surgery (70% of liver removed) and 9mths chemo. Last chemo May and last surgery June.
I am having great difficulty in balancing 'bathroom' visits. There is no real pattern at all in relation to food in respect of triggers. I can't eat at all if I wish to leave the house.
I am considering taking a daily dose of my loperamide as a standard thing to try to get a 'routine' and some stability I.e. less urgency.
I am trying to keep to a good post cancer diet, healthy, clean, no red meat, nothing processed etc. But it's not helping, my cholesterol is now high - due to liver being small now (?).
Any recommendations or advice would be welcome, does this sound familiar. My gp has referred me to a nutritionist but my appointment has not yet come through.
Thanks

Hi Rae
Just wondered if you have read this publication .

I sent it to someone recently and she was able to chat some of it through with her team .
Take care ,

Hi Rae. So sorry to read of your challenges. You might also find some helpful material on the LARS section of the Stoma group here on the Macmillan site. Loperamide can be a helpful tool, but there are plenty of other ways to help. My profile might give you a sense of the patience needed, and the hope that in time things can and will improve. It may not seem like it, but it’s still early days on your journey to a new normal.
Hi Rae. I had a Low Anterior Resection and my surgeon said I might have to take loperamide for life - it’s recommended to take 30 minutes before eating. You might also like to have a look at this talk by a gastroenterologist that was in the BCUK board?
