Hello everyone, I posted here a couple of weeks ago after a colonoscopy showed a tumour in my transverse colon. However, following analysis of biopsy it seems it's come from another organ, yet to be determined - and CT scan has shown liver lesions and cyst on pancreas. I feel pretty devastated. We are now waiting results of C19-9 test, CEA, ALF are normal range, but CA125 is nearly 200 (( had womb cancer two years ago so has it recurred and mestastised). Various MDTs involved trying to track down answers - they also found a blood clot in my liver portal and splenetic veins so have to start on blood thinning injections. Likely treatment will be chemo but am aware tumours still growing in meantime and risk to blocking bowel is quite high. Anyone else had this experience? Need something positive to cling to atm.
Hi Dreamweaver
If you click on my user name you can read how my mum had metastatic cancer . It’s shown up again after 13 years and all classed as part of the original spread . It takes time to learn to deal with it as a chronic condition but chemo can be particularly powerful for a subgroup of patients and oncologist are very proactive in managing it . My mum’s liver tumours grew very quickly but that was actually in its favour if a person is chemo responsive . It’s something to do with the rate of cell division. Which I am not going to pretend to understand but chemo works best on fast diving cells according to the oncologist. My mum’s literally imploded off the screen . Slower growing in her lung apparently.
Initially it was very tough emotionally but she learnt to carve out a good life for herself in the midst of it all . She is an older lady now with other health issues but she is working on her nutrition , mobility and independence. If there is a treatment option for her she will be all in .
Chemotherapy was s game changer for her . It has extended her life along with other interventions that opened up thirteen years . Greedy as we are we are hoping for more .
Best foot forward as she likes to say to a good treatment plan for you .
Also Macmillan has teamed up with Bupa to offer six free counselling sessions . If there is help there for you to help stabilise and put some support in then you might want to consider it .
Take care ,
Court
