Liver, Kidney & blood Checks in Bowel Cancer

Hi Everyone!

I am on to ask if anyone knows what it means when the oncologist tells you that liver and kidney function is normal and blood levels are normal too. Jay has had this feedback from the oncologist but although it sounds good news, don't exactly know what it means and am so scared to ask incase it's something I don't want to hear. Does it mean his treatment is working or has the cancer not spread to those areas. His cancer is down as metastasis I think which I know means has spread but as far as we know it's in the bowel lining but don't know where else if anywhere else. There was talk a while ago that he may have to get a stent fitted for his kidneys but that's not necessary now as his kidneys are fine just slight scarring on one he's been told which was probably caused by the operation to remove the tumour. He is taking in plenty of fluids which he was advised to do by the urologist, and he will be in contact with him again next month via phone consultation. Jay has a CT scan this week which is a bit of a worry as it was the last CT that showed the cancer had come back due to elevated CEA markers. It gives us a bit of hope that at least his liver and kidneys are working as normal but don't know if this is an indication that the cancer is receding slightly.

  • Hi ,

My understanding is that his body is tolerating chemotherapy well   Which means they can keep on going with his treatment plan .
Sometimes people need to have a chemotherapy break to allow their system to balance out .

Definitely nothing to worry about .
