Hi, I had a hemi colectomy just over a year ago followed by chemotherapy. I felt that I was doing well with the diagnosis and chemotherapy. However I am now struggling with some not so good care, respect and dignity that I have had to experience along the way. I am also upset that I have to have a blood test every few months for cancer markers, but do not get to know the result. The last time I did hear the result was by chance because I was in hospital. I did mention to the doctor how reassuring it would be to get the result sooner. However I got a rather flippant reply that we are only told if the news is bad. He could not understand how it would help the mental well being of us patients by being told the good news as soon as possible.

  • I expect you have a colorectal team of specialists; if so, you can phone of the nurses for your results each time. That's what I was able to do.

  • @HepzibarJayne57 sorry you have been treated badly. A cancer diagnosis and treatments are bad enough without this. I can empathise.Take care x

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • I thought I had a designated nurse specialist, I did have a nurse specialist. I was due to see her a couple of weeks ago. However when I was in hospital I was told that that appointment would be replaced by a consultant appointment instead. I was told that if I wished I could see nurse specialist or cancel it. I therefore presumed I would be seeing consultant fairly soon and did not want to take up unecessary time with the nurse so I cancelled that appointment. I would have kept it if I had known I would not be seeing consultant for 2 months. Then the appointment I had with consultant was cancelled so I tried phoning nurse specialist just to discuss one or two things that were bothering me. However I did not get beyond receptionist, I was told that I had chosen to be seen by a consultant instead and that I had opted not to be under the care of the nurse specialist, this was so not the case. Therefore at present I have no one to discuss these issues with.

  • Oh dear, that's not good at all! I'm not surprised at how you feel.

    Best wishes
