So I had my pre-op today ready for stoma surgery on Tuesday but forgot to ask if I need to take a bowel prep again, is this the norm before surgery as thought of drinking that vile stuff again is making me gag , last time I vomited most of it back !
Hi, you need to check with your surgeon (or their secretary) to be sure, but they should have given you the prop at the pre-op if it was required or made arrangements for you to get it. A lot of surgeons are doing bowel surgery now without the patient using the prep - my husband had his op without taking the prep and we did triple check with the hospital to be sure. It does seem to vary by surgeon, as my SIL had to take it before her op at a different hospital. Good luck with your operation!
Hi, lyncd66, as my bowel was close to blocking they did not want a full bowel prep doing, as it may have made things worse. They gave me an enema to use instead.
