Hi! My father has recently completed 6 months of chemo for a stage IV bowel cancer diagnosis whereby a tumour/part of his large intestine has been  removed.  The majority of the lymph nodes removed had cancer present in them. Should he be having a scan now? I’m concerned as there is no mention…?! X

  • Hi . I had a scan after finishing chemo so you could perhaps check with his colorectal nurse to see if there’s one planned?

  • Hi! Many thanks for your reply. I will call the nurse. Thank you X

  • Yes I think he should be . My mum always had scans after chemotherapy was completed and referred back to the MDT meeting . Holiday season can delay things a week or two but no harm phoning the specialist nurse to make sure .

If your ever in doubt about protocol you can Google the Nice guidelines as they give guidance on patient management/ pathways .

It could take a few weeks for the scans to come through though .

How is your dad doing ?

Hope he tolerated it ok .

  • Ok, will do - thank you. He managed much better after his dosage was amended/reduced thank you. He’s struggling a bit with his feet at present - lack of sensation and feels like he’s got blisters underneath his feet, whilst his skin is clear and I think that his rheumatoid may also be causing him problems. I hope that your mum is ok X

  • I have just finished 6 months of Capox chemo and managed 7 out of the planned 8.  I have been told I will have a scan in January.  I asked if I could have one before but the answer was no.  I had small bowel cancer.
