I have on and off Chemo for the past 6 years. Just completed 6 sessions over 12 weeks. Two questions I have. Does anyone have pain in their legs and difficultly walking and do they have a sensation of something stuck in your throat. I am on Ceteximub Irinotecan and fluorcil

  • Hi

My mum had chemo over two years for a stage 4 spread but for several years she had a mixture of peripheral neuropathy in her feet but for a long time she took the most awful leg cramps . Both seem to have eased off . Does any of that sound similar . I used to notice she would scrap her toes out her shoes and not feel it .

I think her potassium was not quite right which contributed to the cramps . I think !

I will ask her about the sensation in her throat .

You have had a lot of treatment . You have done very well on that front .

  • Hi . When I was on oxaliplatin and capecitabine I found I had cramp like pains in the back of my leg and it would feel a bit floppy going up stairs. If I had a cold drink it felt like drinking broken glass and my voice would break when talking - I sounded like I was going to burst into tears! Both passed after the first couple of days.

Having said that it might be worth getting checked for a DVT? Chemo can cause clots and you don’t want to risk them travelling to your lungs or anything. If you ring your doctors then they can do a simple d dimer test to check or ring your emergency chemo helpline number and see what they think?

6 years is good going so hats off to you on that front

    Take care

  • Hi

I think that’s a good suggestion to speak to your team . Always best to get it checked out . I think they did give my mum something to easy the cramps so no point suffering if there is a solution .
