Hi Guys,
So my op went well Professor Khan managed to remove the tumour without giving my a Ileostomy which is great (even though I was fully prepared for it) and I’m now home recovery mind you though was admitted Saturday just gone as my incision site split and got infected but we move Diet wise I wasn’t really given much info, they say follow a low residue diet but with someone who has suffered with disordered eating in the past even with guidelines I’m freaking out about what to eat, I don’t want to go back to my old ways of eating as that would have been a contributing factor to the tumour, I’m a little bit buggered maybe I need to speak with my GP
I lost a good few lbs whilst in the hospital and really wanted to keep the loss up so when I go back to my follow up apt in September the consultant actually notices my weight loss. Don’t think it helps with all the pain meds they send you home with they can constipate you and make you feel even worst plus I’m back on my over active bladder medication now which is known to constipate man I’m freaking out any tips, guidance words of support would be pretty cool right now and thanks again xx
Hi, VJS1985, if you are really struggling I suggest you ring your collectoral nurse for info. What I did for me, was to slowly increase the range of food, including some fibre, bearing in mind I didn't eat big meals, but 3 or 4 smaller ones. Then the bowel will slowly wake up after its manhandling at the operation, which it doesn't like. Its interesting that you were told a low residue diet, I wasn't ,after the op anyway! Low fibre to start then increase slowly. But best check with the nurse. Take care
VJS1985 and . Thought I’d re-post this for interest
Hi VJS1985
You might like to look at the LARS forum on the stoma site here. Lots more advice and experience. And yes, some of the diet advice seems counterintuitive but it’s based on experience of what works.
