Hi Everyone!
Just back from James's oncoly appointment at the hospital today. We didn't see our usual oncologist it was another one although our regular one was there think he was tied up though attending to another patient. Anyway James has signed the consent form for treatment to start two weeks tomorrow (Friday 12th August) and its quite good because he will get the Oxilaplatin at our local hospital at Day Surgery so not too far to go for that. He gets the Oxilaplatin once a month and then its the Capecitabine for the other two full weeks with a break from treatment on the 3rd week. He's up for what they want to throw at him and the oncologist said the best bet would be the combined chemo which we had decided that that was what he wanted to go for. The oncologist went through the side effects obviously will be slightly greater with the combined but he said he has a `better chance` with combined. James said he'll face the side effects if they happen and of course the oncologist gave us all the contact numbers incase of emergencies etc. The Capecitabine he has had already when he went through his radiotherapy treatment last year and he more or less sailed through it but this time the dosage for Capecitabine will be slightly higher las time his dose was 4 tablets in the morning and 4 at night. He's put a little bit of weight on again too but they're not too bothered about that its not a great amount I think the last time it was all through nerves and stress that he lost the weight because he lost his appetite a good bit he's gone up from 135kg to 138kg so its still in the same bracket. So hopefully from now it will be onwards and upwards. I'm just happy that they are actually going to start doing something will keep you all updated.

Great plan in place and also a benefit to not to travel too far to access it .
Thats fantastic. Same combination my mum has . She did require a bit of help managing the side effects but they were straight onto it and made a big difference.
Stay in touch ,

Thanks Court! Yes he'll go to the The New Victoria on the Southside of Glasgow not far from where we are for the Oxipalatin. We thought it would need to be The Beatson so that's a bonus. We have all the contact numbers for the nurses at the Beatson though incase we need them for anything. They all work out of different hospitals in the area though some the oncologist said come down to `The Vic` now and again. Yes will let you know how things go. Take Care.

Thanks Kath! That's what we intend to do. We have a static caravan over in Argyll Scotland and the plan is if James feels up to it going over there for a break on his `down week`. He is allowed to drive while going through this treatment but only the oncologist said if he feels up to it and not to drive if he feels any ill effects. Take Care.

So James has admitted that he is `scared` about this treatment starting. It's understandable though but he wants to do it `face the fear and do it anyway` as they say. He's worried about me incase I go to bits again and our son William. Bless him thinking of everyone else bar himself. I've told him though `we can do this` and we do it together and I'll be by his side all the way. I know though you are all here too incase I get `off` days some days and need to come on here for that reassuring virtual hug to keep me going. Keep well everyone and Take Care.

Thanks Court! Oh I intend to! Funnily enough sleep is something I've not missed out on it's just getting myself out of bed in the morning to face the day but I think this is going to be just that wee bit more bearable now now that we know something will be getting done. Ah you know the unit at `the Vic` is it day surgery?? yes we're just 15/20 minutes away in the car so it is nice and handy! Take Care will keep you all posted.
