Hi everyone.
My mum is currently battling Stage 4 bowel cancer and is on a 24hr syringe driver that releases Oxycodone, levopromazine and midazolam into her to help with pain, nausea and anxiety/restlessness. She has had these meds tweaked so many times and has found the lowest dose that can combat the symptoms.
She has the syringe driver due to the effect of nausea when she was taking these medications orally.
She absolutely hates having to carry the syringe drivers around, but is struggling most with side effects from these strong meds.
She looks and holds herself totally differently, she's so tense, very different facial expressions, holds her arms so tensely, can't concentrate on anything.
Of course I understand she isn't going to be herself at this awful time but I just feel so so sorry for her that she has to suffer through feeling so drowsy yet so restless.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any advice? I just want the best for her.
Thanks
K xx
Hi
I was just browsing the site and saw your post. No direct experience to share since my wife's cancer is very different and the only time she has had anything similar was being connected either to a drip or a chest drain in hospital.
I am more normally found in our Carers only forum and Family and friends - Discussion Forum where we look more at how we feel as much as the person we care for. I know one lesson I had to learn the hard way was how to look after myself if I wanted to be the best I could for my wife.
It is really very hard seeing a loved one so ill. I managed to find a living with less stress course that really helped me and meant that I could make the most of good times and also recognize when times were not so good and that it hurts but that I really was doing the best I could.
<<hugs>>
Steve
