Hi! I’m new to here, I have an ilesotomy for bowel cancer, I’ve had 2 operations (more to come) and on my second batch of chemo (hopefully no more to come..,!).
I have adhesions from surgeries, they have put me back in hospital before when they’ve twisted up and caused obstruction. At the moment they’ve just been grumbling for a couple of days without the spasming.
Has anyone got any tips to relieve the pain/discomfort and has anyone tried scar tissue massage to treat them rather than more surgery?
Hi CuppaTea
I was convinced my mum had adhesions ( if you click on my user name you can see her surgical history ).
She did not end up in hospital with obstructions but was definitely in pain on/off for a few years and really had to watch how she ate her food especially out for a meal . She could not twist to speak up or down a table . I know that sounds odd but it really affected her .
She would go on a soft diet for a few days and sat with warm hot water bottles and it got her over the problem .
However for some unknown reason it all stopped a few years after her surgery . Everything seemed to settle and no further problems experienced.
Our helpline would have more appropriate and up to date information as I think it’s a problem across primary cancers . 0808 808 0000.
Take care ,

I had 6 episodes of intestinal obstruction after my surgery, 3 of which sent me to hospital, and one op to divide the adhesion. Now I have minced food. We have a food processor and everything goes in it. For dessert I have baby food, Ella’s Kitchen. I know I am getting the vitamins with no additives. It is difficult eating out, but I have fish. Many restaurants will blitz the veg for me. If not I have fish and chips! It is a restrictive regimen, but brings peace of mind.
Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
Hi Cupppatee,
My husband is having similar problems after adhesions found him back in hospital after 3 months. He is back in there again while they sort out a solution. He has a partial obstruction due to adhesions, but the consultant is very loathe to operate. He has been told he is a complicated case!!! I think they will send him home on Drip food, to avoid the blockages. At home he found a hot water bottle helped the pain. In hospital he was given Tramadol. We've struggled with food for 4 months, but he did gain weight, slowly. Is your weight OK? otherwise you need to get help. xxxxx
