Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has had this and who do you turn to for help, is it nothing to be worried about or am I just worrying over nothing!!!
I had a defunctioning colostomy last year due to vaginal cancer
Over the last two months the rectal discharge( sorry it's not something anyone wants to talk about, least of all me) is getting more bloody. Today it's like a large dark red blood clot.
I told my GP and he wasn't quite certain who to refer me to. I asked for gynae cancer team. They would only offer me a colposcopy appointment or discharge. I then tried the gynae cancer nurse and told her what happened, she asked the oncologist who told me it was of no concern.
Just wondering if anybody else has had this , it's not something you can discuss with anyone else as they don't have a clue what I'm on about, wouldn't want to!!!

Just passing on the ask an expert link in the off chance that it might be of some help to you.
However if you are getting a discharge from your rectal area which contains blood you could ask for a referral to the colorectal team . They should be able to give you a full investigation to see any area that might be causing concern . It’s easier to get referred from one surgeon to another so if it did not come under that particular area they would speak to their colleagues.
I don’t think you are being silly at all . Our mantra here is to know for certain what is causing bleeding . If it’s something benign then nothing lost .
Hope you get the help you need soon .

Thank you so much for the speedy reply.
I was hoping someone would says...it's nothing, and I could stick my head in the sand again️
I know your right, time to bite the bullet, just had so many examinations I feel I have PTSD at the thought of them.
Big breath
Thank you so much
Totally reasonable . It’s overwhelming.
However you also might like to post on the stoma group as I think the discharge aspect is reported a bit but they would still want to check out any form of blood but keep in mind with the colon only one in ten forms of rectal bleeding is actually cancer .
