I recently received the generic NHS email - advising me that I am eligible for the Spring Booster Jab for Covid - in that my immune system may be weakened.
Since the primary jab, I have since received three further boosters (four jabs in total.) - all via my local heath centre. It seems that now - my health centre (& probably most around the UK, are currently not continuing to give out any information about boosters - & advise you to phone 119.
My last treatment was 6 mths of chemo (Tabs. only,) which ended in Oct '20, followed by a Lung Ablation two weeks later.
I recently had a CT Scan - which showed that I am still clear of recurring cancer.
My query is - Is my Immune System still 'weakened,' even though it's been nearly two years since Chemo. treatment? How does anyone know?
Thank you.
Hi Marianne26. I’ve had 3 COVID jabs but not sure why I fell into the ‘weakened’ category! Don’t know if it was because of the cancer (5 years clear now) or because I developed lung clots after my surgery - I’ve not been offered the 4th booster one. Perhaps the support desk on here could advise you?

It is a strange one court isn't it. I would have thought that Chemo. would completely leave your system after a couple of years?! The main reason for considering whether to have this 5th jab now - is that I believe a better, far more effective one (Omicron,) will be available from September - if that's the case, I think I'd prefer to wait for that one...It seems silly to have far too many of them, yet also, to receive any booster - you have to be three months clear of the last one.
I was surprised ! As it’s been over ten years since she has had chemo , six since her last surgery but she has some ongoing complications from them so I guess they thing she would potentially have a problem but I honestly don’t know .
I get the whole booster thing . I read this morning that over 50s are to get a fourth and a big part of me is grateful and a big part of me thinks it’s possibly too many . Saying that covid has knock me for six and I did not expect that ! But neither have I had so many vaccines . My household seems to be getting hit with one virus after the other as though it’s winter . You do wonder if the immune system went to sleep ! Not that I would know anything to be fair but it swirls around in my mind .
Its all so complicated .

Hi
I’m not sure if this is valid however my husband is highly vulnerable myself moderately have only been offered two AZ and Moderna booster
My sister in law who had lung cancer three years ago has had everything thrown at her including entire lock down and food packages. Which by the way her family made sure she was okay
So is it the lung ablation that is throwing them the red flag?
It may not be the chemo. She was on the list but it was statistically a good idea for her.
I hope this reassurance helps you.
My hubby and I have just had Covid and although nasty the jabs have worked and it was a horrible flu experience. Strangely he didn’t get the cough. Sadly I did.
My advice before getting Covid would be I wouldn’t have the booster
Now I will take whatever they offer.
Ann
Thanks Artsie for your reply..but very much doubt that the Lung Ablation had anything to do with it....It's just a very quick one day procedure - that cauterises Nodules on Lung or Liver - dependent on size, depth, position.
I think that once you have been diagnosed with cancer & received Chemo - within the Covid years - you will be marked as 'vulnerable' within your Health practice for the forseeable future. It's far too vast an equation for each practice to detail everyone individually.
Hi Marianne26
I always assumed it was the GP who highlighted the list of vulnerable etc from some form of guidance . Wonder if it’s from the oncologist.
Take care ,

Interesting.
I’ve not been put on the vulnerability list.
Cancer no Chemo.
My hubby has heart, kidney stage four, Parkinson’s and liver NAFLD and is not on the vulnerable list.
So maybe it’s our GP.
He’s so busy
Sorry for the sarcasm.
I’m not happy with our support from said GP.
