Another Week Waiting!

Hi Everyone!

Not been on all this week but trying to focus elsewhere to try to forget about this for a little while. Had a few family issues this week to keep us occupied. Been day trips up and down to Troon on the Ayrshire coast. Not for pleasure though our son works down there and the engine in his car decided to pack in so `dad` (hubby) has had to run him up and down to work. He works 2 shifts dayshift and nightshift 4 days on 4   so Jay had had to go out at  4.30p.m. and drive him down for his shift starting at 6p.m. then out again at 4.a.m. the next morning to pick him up at 6a.m. to come home so that has kept him occupied for most of this week. We see the oncologist this coming Thursday for Jay's recurrant bowel cancer and tbh it can't come quick enough but I'm that way I want to know and I don't want to know. We're just hoping they caught this early as they did the last time and though they are saying they can't operate at this time, it means they can't operate at all and hopefully with a treatment plan they can shrink down whatever is there to a stage where they can actually operate again. I've read so much about this happening that there is a chance they can operate in some cases where it wasn't possible before. His type 2 diabetes has been giving him problems too in that his blood sugar levels have gone through the roof but the GP has prescribed another tablet for him to take along with his Metformin (Forxiga). We have started a sensible eating regime again too in hope this will help. Told my sister about his cancer and it just went the way I thought it would `in one ear and out the other`. But then she has as I already said has learning difficulties so we don't actually know if she has taken it in or not. We asked her did she understand and she said yes but don't know if she actually does all she seemed interested in was going out with her friends today and that her TV is playing up again whe she left yesterday she said to Jay `hope you get better` what a thing to say! But then I know I think it's just her way of saying things. She had breast cancer 3 years ago and they got it all and she's been cancer free since but I don't think she was able to comprehend how serious having cancer was and I think she just saw it as having a cold or the flu.  Jay is still being `open minded` about the whole thing and I just wish I could be that way instead my head is full of broken bottles just now and I'm still on `autopilot` I've got to the stage I don't actually want to go outside incase I meet one of our neighbours or something and they ask how Jay is and I end up breaking down. Takes me all my time to go outside and put a washing out everyday things I usually do just seem like an effort just now. Hope the rest of you all are keeping well.  Take Care.

  • Feel as if I'm in my own `wee lockdown` just now and the days are just more or less morphing into each other just now. Everyday is like `groundhog day` for me feeling like this.

  • Hello , good to hear from you .

I ended up in Troon last week for a few hours but not as early as you .

Sometimes it’s healthy just to get away from forums for a day or two . You can only do what you can do.

Thats the Hope with chemo . Even although oncologist can’t commit until they see how effect chemo is being it’s given on the hope it does a good job of slowing things down .

Once the plan is in place it will give you some direction too .

Hope your son got his car fixed .

    Take care ,

  • Hi Court!

No I didn't do the `morning runs` to Troon last week (behave yourselfJoy). I went on the 4.30p.m. ones. A couple of times but then William's (my son) partner was working a couple of days last week and her shift didn't finish until 6 a night. So I was on `granny duties` looking after our wee granddaughter until `mum` came home and Jay picked me up on the way back. No the car hasn't been fixed something to do with the engine and the camshaft?? not really auto minded seems its a big job. He's on his 4 days off just now before starting back on Wednesday dayshift so I think he is going to try to get something sorted. Unfortunately the insurance he has doesn't entitle him to a courtesy car so it'll either be `dad's taxi` again next week or if he can loan a car from someone. He looked at hire car prices and apparently for a basic Corsa it's £400 for the weekScream. Think he'll be getting shot of this car though because he's began having a lot of trouble with it and think he's lost all faith in it now and he needs a reliable car to get him to work.

  • Rofl. I was impressed that you were up so early !

Cars are so expensive to hire now . It’s frightening . My sons cars are getting on a bit and anytime they need repairs done they take mine ! I had a few new cars at one point that were awful . Now when I get a good runner I kept it for ages . It’s so difficult though if it’s the only way to get to work .

    Hope it resolves soon .

  • I wasn't up early court. I just rolled over and went back to sleepJoy. Jay said it was like being back at work because he used to go out at `stupid o'clock` times most days and wouldn't come home again to `silly o'clock` times at nightSlight smile. I said this has probably been the reason why he is going through all this now the cancer, the diabetes. He used to sleep in his work's van he would work through the night and then go straight on and do another shift and he would eat at all odd hours and just eat rubbish and everything else more or less not good for you. Takeaways were a big thing for him too but we all like a takeaway now and again but with Jay it was at one time I think 5 days a week curries, kebabs etc.  I got used to it though. His pay was absolute sh** but he was one of those people who couldn't say no to his boss- and his boss knew it! Jay also has dyslexia it was never officially diagnosed but all the traits are there `baby hand writing` (mixture of upper and lower case letters) he mixes up letters like the letter d and b things like that so he's just gone from one low paid job to another. He went out to work with his dad when he was a little boy he said and it was his dad who got him started on the work he used to do which was building advertising billboards and posting billposters on to telephone boxes and on to hoardings at shops etc. He used to go all over Scotland doing it and sometimes to the north of England Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle but for the work he done he never got any recognition for it.  The boss he ended his working days with never even gave him a leaving do even though he helped him get his company off the ground when his last company went to the wall.
