Hi im going through chemo now and 2 side effects i have is breathing difficulties and numbness in legs feet lips and tongue has anyon

e experienced this - i feel quite scared st the moment

  • Hi . I’ve attached a link to a post we did about chemo and it’s side effects.

    community.macmillan.org.uk/.../chemo-care-top-tips--

Are you on oxaliplatin and capecitabine? The oxaliplatin can cause a bit of breathlessness and cold drinks can make your throat spasm or feel like it’s closing up. Both the oxaliplatin and the cape can cause a tingling feeling in the hands, feet and legs. I found the tablets made my lips tingle so used to tip them into a bottle top and tip them into my mouth from there.

Having said all this it’s still worth running these side effects past your chemo team and you should have been given a 24 hour help number? This is not just for emergencies but for reassurance too so please ring them if you’re feeling scared

    Take care

  • As Karen62 suggested ,ring the helpline for advice and reassurance..I’ve phoned them a few times whilst I was having chemo & they were always very helpful .Also a good idea to keep a chemo diary of side Effects..which I would take with me to each oncology meeting .

can you phone your team tomorrow and see what they suggest as well .

wishing you all the best .I’ve just finished 3/4 chemo treatments.Always happy to help if I can .

I agree it’s scary on times because we’ve never experienced these side effects before ..fear of the unknown ..I get that .

    take care x

  • Hi

Difficult breathing can be such a wide range but if you are at all concerned please phone the NHS 111 and run it by them . Better safe than sorry .
