Hi my results for CS scan are all clear!!! Hallelujah. MRI show a tumor in anus or rectum. No spread to liver lymph nodes or lungs. Feel like a headless chicken can’t cry or laugh with relive! MDT are meeting next Wednesday after biopsies are back to decide on treatment. That will start in 6-8 weeks??!! That seems a long time to wait, the nurse who was so nice said they need to sort dates etc ( can’t remember his actual words)  I was over the moon with the results my daughter who’s is 37 is worried about the long wait and still not knowing till next week. I appreciate this bless her I try to reassure her I’m very pleased at the moment with the outcome feel extremely lucky so far. We’ll know more after next Wednesday on the discussion for which treatment. Waiting 6-8 weeks seems long, anyone know if this is normal please?
. I’m thinking they will be treating people more serious than me first which i totally understand and respect. Thank you all so much I’ve found having this group to come to and pop on as really helped me considerably. Thank you x

  • Hi  and good to hear no spread - I was so pleased when I was told the same - almost forgot I still had cancer though! My meetings and treatment seemed to happen pretty quickly but that was back in 2016. I know of another forum user who was diagnosed in January but didn’t start chemoradiotherapy until the beginning of march. Bowel cancer is very slow growing and the team involved in your treatment will have seen this scenario lots of times and know the timescales available. Sounds like you’re more chilled out than your daughter!

You may have chemoradiotherapy before surgery or go straight to surgery but either way we’ll be here to support you

    Take care

  • Great news  it is such a.relief when you know there is no spread at time of Dx. I’m sure you are over the moon.
keep pushing them to move fast if you can …. As Karen says depending on its size and location they may want to shrink it first with chemo radiotherapy. Either way enjoy all the good news when you get it.

  • Hi GreenNanny

That's good news and you'll be so relieved.

I had a similar diagnosis to you in that I had rectal cancer with no apparent evidence of spread (from CT Scan or MRI).  The initial diagnosis was made in March 2021 from the colonoscopy and CT Scan.  MRI didn't happen until April 2021 followed by surgeon consultation in late April to discuss the results.  I didn't get my operation for removal until June 2021, so almost 2 months after diagnosis.  They did reassure me that this was a relatively normal timescale and that bowel tumours are slow growing.  Radiotherapy prior to the op was discussed but they decided to proceed without it in the end.

I hope that you get some more news soon and everything goes well for you.  Just shout out if you need any more info.

  • Thank you. I’ll definitely ask some questions x

  • hi GreenNanny, so glad it's not spread and not in any lymth  nodes. I had rectal cancer and had Chemo and radiotherapy before op. I had rectal cancer which they removed along with my anus. I waited six weeks before treatment. Then two months before op.  This was followed by mop up/ belt and braces Chemo. This was in 2011.
