Hi guys
all very new to gizmo (gizzy) the stoma 20/4 gizzy came into my life, while in hospital not very many problems at all. now home wow i now know I got it I am eating much more of a normal diet, but wow do I get wind around the stoma the sort that does not pass very easy. Once my bowels open the pain eases away, (I have to change my bad about 3 to 4 times a day) Until I eat again advise please
i not sure if I am not drinking enough, eating too much at a time, I am staying away from green vegetables, and eating the Wiltshire farm food dinner, the only thing I can think of I had bake beans on toast a few days ago
any ideas I can belch for England once I start
question 2 how long did it take your stoma’s to settle down
Megs
Hi Megs (Pippa),
I saw your post hadn’t had a response so I thought I’d jump on if that’s ok? I'm sorry that you seem to be suffering what sounds like a painful issue with ‘gizzy’. I'm from the anal cancer forum & although I don’t personally have experience a few of our members there have had stoma’s & have found joining the Ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy and any other stoma support helpful. There’s bound to be someone there that’s suffered the same or similar issues & will have some ideas on things you could try to alleviate this as it must be really uncomfortable. I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
Nicola
Hi Pippa,
I'd be interested in hearing the answers to your question. My husband is 3 months from a bowel obstruction operation, and still has wind problems. It doesn't seem to matter what he eats. He gets wind and then the stoma works!! Our stoma nurse thinks it may be connected to the iron tablets he is on. We have yet to ask the doctor if he can come off them. I've kept him off all green veg, doesn't have shells or skins on anything, but still has wind.!!!
Hi Pippa
im an Ileostomy and her names Whoopi or whoopsadaisy whoops or Whoopee cushion after beans.
The name I call her suits what I’m dealing with
I ate very plain beige food to start and introduced after two weeks. I drank lots of isotonic drinks and squash also.
I chew until my food is mulch as I don’t have a working bowel my mouth does the job. I adjusted to it
In fact today I ate nuts!
But I’m nine months on
It’s early days for you
Now I eat a varied diet all colours and Whoopi is great. It takes up to eight weeks for the stoma to form mine was not pronounced to start. She’s well away now
i hope this give you some encouragement.
Remember chew and chew and eat plain to start. Keeping a food diary really helped me and I added things if I got a reaction I’d go back to beige

Hi Pippa I had my stoma fitted last November after my bowel suddenly erupted. I tent to eat small meals or snacks, chew my food well and I’ve had very little problem. few things I can’t tolerate are milk, chocolate, cabbage, sprouts and baked bean. I think it’s just trial and era.
good luck Lorraine
