Hi, I have just started Capecitabine tablets 2000mg twice a day, and was wondering how soon do side effects start?
Thank you
Hi Amersham. Are you on capecitabine only - no IV chemo? I had a low dose of capecitabine along with my radiotherapy and found it to be ok. I had 5 weeks worth and just started to get prickly feet towards the end. Your dosage may be a lot higher but you may find that you tolerate it really well. Keep your hands and feet well moisturised with something like Aveeno with Shea Butter and make sure you mention any side effects to the nurses so they can help and advise you
Take care

Hi Amersham
How long have you been on the tablets ?
I was supposed to be on your regimen. 4 days in I had to stop. Too much nausea and vomiting. From my experience You will know pretty early whether you can tolerate the tablet taking …. The other effects come later into the course.
Hi Amersham, my partner is on a slightly higher dose, with one day IV two week cycle. He usually starts immediately with fatigue, he doesn’t have sickness or anything like that as he takes the anti sick tabs (he can’t deal with sick anything but sick!) He gets funny feeling in his hands when he touches something cold almost straight away but it’s just unusual not painful he says. I find this site so helpful so hope this helps a bit x
I honestly felt nauseous from day 1. And added to that I’m a hopeless tablet taker.
thry swapped me to I/v equivalent of capecit. And I havent looked back. That’s a weekly regimen and I have 9 infusions left ( out of 30) so I’m over the hump !! 4 attempts at cannula each week not so fun but I chose not to get a picc or central line ( not the best decision maybe )
I hope you do keep tolerating the tabs well. My friend is on your regimen and she has 2 cycles left and is just starting to see effects on soles of feet and if that happens they might just reduce your dose.
i know 26weeks ( or 30 in my case) is a long haul compared to 12weeks capox etc but probably waaay more convenient and more easily tolerated
xx
