Hi everyone,
I’m a 44 year old mum of 4 and I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. I will be starting 6 cycles of Folfox chemo shortly.
A friend suggested that I plan to give myself a treat at each of the 6 cycles. So, whilst I’m slightly embarrassed to ask as I know it seems rather superficial, I wondered if anyone can advise whether it would be safe to treat myself to a facial?
Also, does anyone know if there are particular products which might be suitable for hair, skin and nails to try and protect them as much as possible.
Thank you in advance x
Welcome to the forum . Really sorry to hear about your diagnosis but think it’s a great idea . My mum stayed very connected to small goals and projects right the way through and it really helped her keep a handle on things and give her a sense of purpose at times . Keeping them flexible to work around side effects was also important and of course a bigger celebration at the end of each six course cycle !

Boots and Macmillan are working in partnership with their number seven beauty department and even if it is not the brand you are looking for they do a virtual session so you could even ask for some guidance. They also have cancer advisors in the pharmacy should you ever need to ask anything but that’s an aside .
It is not superficial at all I think it’s wonderful strategic planning !
My mum always went into chemo looking very smart . Can’t say she re emerged the same way after she was wrapped up .

I really appreciate your reply
Hi StevieLeigh38,
There is nothing to be embarrassed about, your about to go through an unpleasant time, so you have to do things to make you feel like you at a time you are really not going too.
Due to the stress and trauma of my treatment my hair fell out, it wasnt even chemo that did it as the cancer I have only responses to being surgery removed, just pure stress from the whole situation.
I am a believer in you have to fuel your body with the best nutrition to get it in it best condition to cope with what throw at it.
I researched all products and found JuicePlus products worked for me best, the are vegan and plant based
