Had rectum and colon removed on the 20/4/22 thankfully all went really well I had robotic surgery which has added recover. Have to say the plastic surgery hurt more than the rectum surgery. My 2nd day back at her me started very slowly building back.
The stoma did you have to buy slightly larger underwear and trousers as soon as I put my old clothes on my stoma the little Gizmo I have a lot of wind it bursts out, a little unpleasant to say the least
I am obviously still swollen from the surgery10 days ago how did you handle it and what did you do
Hi Pippa and good to hear that you’re home - there’s nothing like your own bed. It’s very early days yet and your stoma will change in size and settle down over the next few weeks. I lived in jogging bottoms for the first few weeks as it’s better not to have waistbands cutting across the stoma. I did invest in some ‘Bridget Jones’ knickers as I felt they supported the bag a bit more and also a couple of little strappy vests to cover any gaps when I stretched! You could copy and paste this onto the stoma board and see if there’s anyone there with any thoughts?
Take care

Hi Pippa
its great to read that you’re home I think recovery is much easier at home. Hospitals are hard to relax in
like Karen says in the early days it’s best to buy big pants I bought two sizes up light weight packs from M&S I feel comfortable in their micro fibre but I also bought cheap from Asda.
I wore straight summer dresses for comfort. I was bloated before the op so I had plenty to choose from. The waist band of clothing can catch the pouches when sitting in the early days
Leggings large sizes and tunics got me through the winter.
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. It doesn’t take long to get your shape back. I’ve dropped a dress size now so it’s not worth spending lots on clothes until the swellings gone down
Like Karen says join the stoma group there’s masses of posts there to look through and lots of advice.
I like your stoma’s name Gizmo. Great choice.
