Hello everybody, This message is to hopefully give you guys some inspiration.
I had bowel cancer in 2012, stage 3.
After the bowel operation I had 4 doses of chemotherapy and as it was making me so ill I refused to take the remaining four doses. At the time I decided I'd rather die than carry on with the chemotherapy. I changed my diet slightly and ate mostly organic food, cut out red meat, etc., I did loose a lot of weight and am still quite slim as I cannot eat much due to having had a metre of my bowel cut out.
In 2014 it had "metastasized to the liver", had half of my liver cut out and as a result I was diagnosed at stage 4.
I refused chemotherapy in 2014 after the liver operation.
I had a blood test recently and the cancer is still at bay.
In 2012 I was so ill that I couldn't get out of bed so easily and even dress myself. I watched t.v. practically all day and this is when I got hooked on watching Coronation Street and have watched every episode ever since, however I remember thinking how can my late mum possibly watch this rubbish every week and here I am doing exactly the same as she did.
I am not sure whether Court is still on this site but I remember her being so kind to me when I was in a state back in 2012.
From my own experience cancer is not a death sentence. I was 70 yrs. old on 26th April (everybody thinks I look about 55 yrs. old) and my three sons surprised me with a trip to Barcelona for a few days.
I wish all of you a speedy recovery!
Hi Jody and thank you for sharing such a lovely, positive inspiring update. Cancer treatment is tough and it’s good to hear that you’ve got through it and you’re still cancer free. Yes the amazing court is still on here sharing her knowledge and wisdom and I’m sure she’ll be along shortly
Take very good care of yourself

ps Barcelona is amazing isn’t it?!
Hi Jody
So good to see your name pop up ! I remember you and your three sons well . In the music industry if I remember correctly??
I tell people often my mum is not alone . Many , many people are now off out enjoying life with treatment put behind them . It is so great that you have come along right now and encouraged them .
There has been a few stage 4 patients at the start of their journey recently joined the forum and we know how important hope is !
So here I am , gave up watching the news and most of tv . I paint , watch a small amount of tv in the evenings and go for a good walk .
My baby boys are now men and sitting finals etc right now . Can you believe they were in primary school when I joined and my mum moved in with me for six months as my dad had just had a stroke and it was easier for me to look after them and my kids under one roof . This was a life line when you wonder how your going to get through the days . So pleased you had a wonderful 70 th birthday . That’s amazing . Mum has had the privilege of becoming an older lady now as it’s her 80 th birthday this summer . We shall be celebrating and maybe even get her out on the kayak again .
So here we both are and what a good news story you are .
You just made my day !

Well done Jody, it's always good to read people saying, 'I made it.' Here in Liverpool the Clatterbridge centre has a small 'bell ringing ceremony, ' apparently an idea borrowed from tbe US. I didn't bother, for me it was walking through turnstile V at Anfield to watch LFC vs WHU, my first match post treatment.
People move on post-treatment, only a dedicated few, of whom Court is the leading example, remain to offer the kind of knowledge & information people want, and in my opinion, more importantly, hope.
There is, for the majority of people, a life after cancer treatment and it's good. Personally I think I've bored people stupid with Liverpool football Club, to misquote Diana, 'there is definitely 3 in this marriage, ' my wife, myself and Jurgen, with whom we are both hopelessly in love.
YNWA- 'we're in love with him, and we feel fine

It’s all moving very fast for you . I hope the scans go smoothly tomorrow and getting your plan brings some direction and a good way to move things forward . Bowel cancer caught early has many treatment options and lots of people here to support you as you go through this .
Take care ,

Evening Ivymay, Mike in Liverpool here. When diagnosed we all wrack our brains trying to think of occasions that could have led us to receiving an earlier diagnosis. I'm not a Dr, my wife is but a GP not a colorectal expert, she says most c/r tumours are slow growing and have been in situ for somertime before symptoms become apparent. My cancer was definitely 'missed' 6 months before it was diagnosed, it made no difference tothe outcome.
Logic & perspective go out the window when you hear the word 'cancer.' I won't bother to say, 'Don't worry,' of course you will. Make sure you get food, exercise and rest, ie sleep, even if it means asking your GP for sleeping tablets as I did on the recommendation of my wife. I split them in two and took a grand total of three half tabs, but they helped.
I wish you the best recovery possible.
