Watch and wait

I had a watch wait offer after chemoradiotherapy. I did have cancer in lymph nodes, on scan showed cancer had gone in bowel but had slough showing. I asked surgeon what would he recommend. He advised he thought with slough likelihood cancer would return and unless removed could not advise on lymph nodes. I opted for operation which went well, but unfortunately on the rectum resection I have a small wound which is leaking. I saw oncologist on 28th and he said if not healed 5 weeks from 28th chemotherapy would not be offered. Basically I would go forward on a similar wait and watch. Wondered if anyone has had similar experience, which makes me feel I perhaps should have bypassed operation, but no point looking back now

  • Hi

Did this post get answered on another thread or have completely missed it ?

Nice have some guidelines on when post op chemo can be given . I thought it was a bit longer than five weeks more towards 8 but that could be totally wrong .

However you can look as it’s a public document.

There has been various people over the years due to infections etc that breach the timescale of when it would be beneficial . You might be able to see previous posts in the search function too right hand side of the page ( magnifying glass).

Our helpline staff would also be happy to chat it through with you .

    Take care ,

  • Sorry Court it was probably how I explained the time scale. They advised from when I saw oncology on 28th April i had 5 weeks to heal, after this date chemotherapy would not be offered. I just assumed it would be offered once healed. I am trying to eat lots of protein as this is what they recommend.
