I had my surgery end of November 2021 and a permanent stoma ads due to previous radiotherapy i did not have sufficient healthy bowel for a resection. All good with bag etc really started to feel well and pleased to manage with bag a weeks before surgery had ben a nightmare, then told I needed to take 8 cycles of capaceptabine as the blood vessels were affected. So three cycles on I am on week four of a break as the toxicity has caused my hands and feet to break open, my mouth to have lots of ulcers my eyes to be sore and swollen and bad diarrhoea and subsequent dehydration. I am pleased to say all these symptoms have greatly subsided, and I hope to restart the drug in a lower dose next week. HOWEVER, my stoma output today has been phenomeanal it has gone basically all morning, I have used four pouches and in the end just stayed in bathroom dealing with it rather as was easier option. I really do not understand it - where is it akl coming from? I have not eaten a great deal; at weekend or anything different, and this morning before it started had my usual porridge. But I feel very angry as I was hoping to go out today but have lost my confidence, also have a funeral tomorrow and n0w anxious about that! I take 8 immodium a day as prescribed by colorectal dr, and really do not know what else to do. Tried calling my specialist team but had to leave message as no one to take call, also could bot reach anyone on helpline. Please has anyone else experienced or ot any ideas at all?
Hi LizzieJo. Normally I’d suggest immodium and the usual ‘thickening foods’ like marshmallows, wine gums, porridge, mash etc. but you sound to have already tried those. Perhaps you could give the nurses on here a ring while you wait for your team to get back to you? They’re available 7 days a week from 8-8 on 0808 808 00 00
Hope things settle down for you shortly
