I appear to have developed a large seroma following my surgery. I’m finding it quite uncomfortable and wondered if anyone else had suffered from this and if so how long did it take to resolve? My surgeon checked it but doesn’t want to intervene at the moment.
Hi Pebbles…
Sorry I can’t answer your question but I am wondering if that’s what I have. Is it like a tender lump near the wound site and I keep getting a stitch too on my left side… I am 3 months post LAR op. I am due a call in a couple of weeks from my consultant regarding a ileostomy reversal so will ask then. It only started to bother me in the last week after I had an enema X-ray carried out to see if my bowel has repaired for reversal.
Hope your discomfort subsides.

Hi Pebbles
I had this around 2 weeks after surgery. The seroma, and a haematoma, formed a lump directly above the main wound. The pressure eventually caused the wound to open (it had been glued rather than stitched) and everything drained away. It wasn't painful but it meant that the wound had to be packed and dressed for a few weeks afterwards.
Catz321 - You should perhaps phone one of your nurses to check this out. I was concerned when I noticed my "lump" and was advised to get it looked at by the GP.
