Hubby has just had a meeting with the oncologist and we had a long chat especially after my wobble yesterday....yes Tony is at high risk but the tumour had not gone through the bowel wall which is a positive..yes there were a high number of nodes but the oncologist said he has seen some patients without any nodes where the cancer has returned so there are never any guarantees...more importantly the oncologist has recommended due to the numbness in Tony's hands and tingling that we stop the chemo now as the evidence shows that three is as good as six but that even with a reduced dose the side effects could become more permanent..it was Tony's choice of course but he decided to stop in light of the info ...the oncologist advised he would stop at this point of he was Tony but was happy to do whatever Tony felt comfortable with...no celebrations yet though until the CT scan has been done and confirms no further progression....its feels a bit surreal to be honest...the oncologist didn't seem hugely bothered by all the risk factors I have been mulling over in my mind and agonising over...I think I now need to accept it is what it is and try and park it somewhere and live life in the now...

  • Hi

It can be a bit disconcerting when it comes down to a clinical decision and whilst you know they have years of hands on experience to draw from you do realise parts of medicine are both an art and a science .

However he has worked so hard to get to this juncture and come through so much I think deep down you know inside they need the time and space to start moving forward with their lives .

My mum actually had no post op chemo and I was surprised at how quickly I got on board with that plan . It was a bit strange to begin with putting distance between the hospital routine and getting back to normal life . A few good plans assisted with that aspects . But still it had become a bit of a lifeline .

I will look forward to hearing how you are both getting on .

    Take care ,
