  • Hi

Just want to check a wee detail . What did your team suggest your scanning protocol was ? I know you finished Chemo in July and scanned at the end of Dec . My mum was always booked in at that appointment for a scan in three months time , or six . That would be roughly now if it was three months .

Honestly my mum has had a few scans due to increased CEA and they phoned her first and it was then a few weeks later . Was it your oncologist who did the CEA or your GP ?

I would honestly have thought they would have spoken to you first . However my mum got preplanned scans through by post .

  • Hi court my specialist nurse requested it as part of my plan that was taken at my GPS surgery a week ago then today I get a text to say I'm expected for a CAT scan next Sat I haven't heard a thing off my nurse or consultant.

  • Sounds incredibly fast for your GP to get the bloods back and your team have arranged it so soon !
At your last oncologist appointment did they say when they would book in your next scan ?

I would be surprised and very disappointed if they did not inform you of this first .

  • You could phone the scanning department tomorrow and ask why you are having a scan , who requested it and what date was it requested . That might give you an indication of it is actually related to your CEA or a pre planned scan .

It always happens at the weekend !

  • Hi Court, I don't see my oncologist any more he passed me back to my surgeon consultant.

I'm sure he said once a year for scan because I remember him saying after this one you will have 4 more.

I dont think they will be open Sunday I'll have to wait until tomorrow now.

I have not heard a thing from my consultant or specialist nurse and I'm very friendly with her she knows me well, the only thing I can think is someone else another nurse has seen them as mine is getting married this week and I think she's on leave, but I still shoukd have been informed of my cea results and further investigation.

Well whatever will be will be I'm just shocked that I got a clear in dec and now something could have possibly come back so quick ! Thinking

I'm also concerned as I reacted really badly to the contrast last time my face swollen red and my skin very itchy for shouting three weeks.

  • Hi

A lot of overtime going on in the NHS just now to try and catch up . Might be worth a try.

Very stressful for you without the explanation for sure .

Just keep in mind roughly 50 % of CEA spikes are false positives . My mum’s oncologist never reacted to one but retested and if it showed an increase she scanned then .

Hopefully you will get some information soon .

    Take care ,
