Hi all. Hope everyone is good.
I had a stoma reversal 18mnths, following the all clear from anal cancer and all is good, I am very lucky and have one daily movement first thing in the morning approx 7am but when I go I have no control what so ever and it just happens. But after that I am mostly empty and majority of the time I can continue the day. If I leave home I take Imodium just to be sure
My issue is this is all well and good when I am home. However, I am going back to the office one day a week and I need to leave the house at the exact time that my bowels normally have their daily open, so need to try to make them go earlier! Also on occasions like an upcoming holiday and at the airport this will be a problem as we will be in a taxi en route to airport when they will just go!!
My physio has given the mini irrigation which I tried so I could promote the bowel movement earlier on the days I need to leave the house earlier, but I found that it worked and I went to the toilet, but the Bowles continued to keep opening on and off for approx 3hrs.
So, do I try and empty them the night before the office visits and will they stay empty all the next day?? And will my nice daily pattern fall back in place with this once a week interruption?
any help would be appreciated, I am getting myself in a bit of a pickle about this and my anxiety is off the wall. Thank you in advance for any tips.
Hi Matilda24, the obvious question is can you adjust your work start, certainly at the beginning, to just after you've been? And perhaps try to go slightly earlier each day? Not sure totally changing the routine to the night before will succeed. Your work should be amenable in the situation. Hope you work something out, xx
Hey Gemmary
Thank you so much for your reply, this is something I could definitely do and they would absolutely accommodate, but I really want to try to be able to get there at my usual start time as my team all start at 8am and the traffic and parking after this are horrendous so that would probably add more anxiety But I think, if no other solutions do work out then maybe a reasonable flexible start time might have ti be the way forward. Xxx
I tend to agree with Gemmary tweak your work to suit your body Whether that means going in later or earlier
if you have got yourself into a great daily routine I wouldn’t try to change it The body will always fight it And again it will find it’s natural rhythm and how great a daily clear out just once a day. Put your body first
xx
Thank you Parky. The more I think about it the more I am inclined to do this because my routine is so good I really don’t want to knock it out of line once a week and then not get it back again. I have looked up massage to promote bowel movement so maybe in the morning of work I can try that to help me get out the door earlier, but if I do a reasonable adjustment and arrive later than I think that’s going to be better than doing irrigation the night before.
I could potentially use the irrigation on the odd occasion if I am going on a flight and need to empty on a rare occasion but as you say I don’t think it’s worth upsetting my daily routine.
I really appreciate you support xx
I agree, you really need to adjust work round your current routine. This works so don't break it! But slow tweaks will help. Perhaps look at what you have for dinner the night before - is there anything that gets through quicker!!?? Then you may not need to do much other adjustment!!
