Hi All,
Not been around for a couple of years.....
I am trying to find out how we go abut seeking a second opinion. Not because we don't agree with our oncologist but just to widen the net in terms of possible treatments.
My partner is stage 4 metastatic bowel cancer - metastases are in his liver. The tumours whilst calcifying last November have now grown again - 2 cm since January. He has been undergoing treatment since November 2018 and so we are running out of options. I have no idea where to even start looking for the best oncologist who may be able to help.
We are based in the midlands - but will travel anywhere.
Advice urgently sought
Thanks
Jo
Hi
Totally understand it’s a case of finding the consultant at the cutting edge of treating certain cell types that you want to find . I don’t have that information but if you pop over to Bowel cancer U.K. they have a Facebook page for stage 4 patients and they are a pretty informed group of people who would be able to assist you .
You might like to make sure you have information on any mutations as they will help direct who is best to consult with .
Has a liver surgeon at a centre of excellence had a look at his scans ? Or is that not a possibility? My mum had an extensive liver spread but segments 1 to 3 were free of cancer allowing 73% of her liver to be removed .
He has had a lot of treatment for sure .
Once you have identified a consultant your GP or your oncologist can actually assist you in approaching them . They might also know what’s in the pipeline for clinical trials .
Our helpline staff can assist with this if you want to chat any aspect through with them . 0808 808 0000
All the very best to you both and please let us know how it goes .

Hi court
Liver surgery failed as they discovered a tumour right on the blood supply once they’d opened him up - so had to abort.
the rechallenge with folfiri didn’t seem to be working now either. I’m just gathering info and names for our oncologists so we can push this forward.
have you heard of histotripsy treatment? Seem very new for the uk but available….I’d be keen for any more info people have on this?
thanks
jo
Hi
I have never heard of it before . How interesting . Given the name of the radiologist is given on the hope4livers trial in leads have you thought about approaching them for information ?
Has SIRTS been mentioned explored ?
Hopefully some other people might have information . Certainly one to find out more information on .
