Went in for my Covid swob and  blood tests last Wednesday. Saw my oncologist face to face and he was quite positive. I’d been having pain in a port site, had my op back in November, thought I had a hernia, so I thought another one I’ve got to live with . So I just left it.Thursday pain really got worse, went to GP, She said not a hernia but an abscess. She gave me a letter to go to A&E. That is where I’ve been since,  that is in the hospital not still A&E. I’ve  had to have it drained , I’m on iv antibiotics. One of the oncologist come over to see me to tell me they will give me my last chemo, said it will be discussed.  I’m under the UCLH so The Macmillan centre is just over the road. Has anyone had their chemo stopped because of infection, does anyone know how long in between having an infection and continuing with chemo can you wait? I was only out of hospital a week after a 10day stay to check my heart was ok and could carry on with chemo. Just want to get it over with , he did say he was going to reduce the dose.

  • Thank you Gemmary, I just posted back to Nelly B. My 4th cycle has been indefinitely been delayed depending on wound healing.. I am no longer on FB. I haven’t had a chance for my daughter to download the Charlie Mackey book because I’ve been in and out of hospital and now I can’t go near my daughter because she has Covid. I do feel a bit sad that I was near finishing, but maybe it will still happen but the wound is a bit deep. Thank you for your reply sending hugs xx

  •  if you are still feeling grotty and the wound still warm/hot , throbbing make sure you get another course of ABs either the same or a different one. Which did did you just finish ?
worse by week 30 Rolling eyesRolling eyes  ???? I’ll slap you Joy

  • Hi Parky, I took my last antibiotics last night. They were called clindamycin. I have the district nurse coming in today, so I’ll see how it’s doing. There was talk of a vac pump but I think I might know more today. They said they are going to dress it 3 times a week, I’m not sure that is enough but like I say I will know more today.thank you for your reply. Good luck with the rest of your chemo. Sending hugs xx

  • Haha, , I was working all through, and they did get cumulative. The last few I got a lift to the hospital as the effects kicked in quicker, so no point risking the drive (only 20miles each way), but generally I was ok,tired, brain fog and neuropathy in hands. My 30 weeks was over 34, May to mid Dec,  it got stopped a couple of times, and I missed one as had a short family holiday booked. So they generously added them on the end!!! I think the reality of it all was starting to kick in as well.

  • Clindamycin is a great AB for deep infections and anaerobic bacteria. Often used with bone infections either 150mg 3-4 times a day for 300mg 3-4 times a day. Hopefully the wound is starting to heal but don’t hesitate to get more ABs if infection still giving you pain etc

  • Hope you are doing better, . Watching the sun and snow!!! How weird is the weather lately. Xx

  • Hi Parky, thank you, I was on 300mg 4 times a day. While I was in hospital it was a drip. Then they couldn’t det another canular back in so started oral. I have an appointment Wednesday to see the oncologist again. See what they say about last chemo.hope your still playing golf.xx

  • Hi Gemmary. Just hoping what the the consultant said about my outcome is true and not sugarcoating anything. I’m going to see an oncologist again on Wednesday, so my nurse did get me an appointment, so maybe they will say if I can have the last chemo. Thank you for your post very much appreciated. I’m still very fatigued not sure if this is after effects if the chemo or the infection or both.xx

  • Hi Gemmary, I think you had radiofrequancy ablation, I had it on my liver about a year ago. I have my chest, abdomen and pelvic ct routine scan came in for the 20 th this month. Yesterday I got a mri scan just for my liver. I don’t know if this is routine  a year after ablation. It isn’t until, May. I hope you don’t mind me asking. I have had a recent chest and abdomen scans because of my recent things wrong and they said they are clear. I am going in this afternoon, my nurse got this because I don’t know what is happening with my last chemo. I will ask them it’s just I’m just overwhelmed with everything.

  • Hi NellyB. I went yesterday but I won’t be getting last chemo as to risky with the infection I have. I have ct scans on the 20th. Freaked out because I got one just for the liver! That was or the 3rd of May. Got appointment with oncologists. On 4 th May to discuss scans. The Nurse called to say they have got me a liver sca for next week. The oncologists says all my scan from my recent stay in hospital look fine but and the spots on my liver have not changed, but because of concerns there they want to doubl check. Just praying that I can start living again, I know it might take a while yet still feel not right, tired anxious wobbles. Hope you are well. Sending hugs xx
