Can anyone help. I am panicking. I have since 13th March after operation on 9th been having leakage from resection wound of rectum. Today it seems to have increased by clear fluid and mucus type leakage and a roughly 2cm gap where stitched have been. Is this normal.
Mine took 6 weeks to heal but it might put your mind at rest if you had a chat with the district nurse.
What sort of cushion are you sitting on? Donuts are notorious for pulling the stitches apart
Also what sort of dressings are you using.I was given some containing silver which really helped.
Hope all goes well

Hi Pez2
I don't think that this sounds normal and I think you should phone someone to have it checked, as much for your own piece of mind as anything else.
I had similar after an LAR. The big wound that they use to pull the section of bowel out opened up about 10 days after the original op. split open and was initially bleeding followed by a yellowy/clear liquid. I was sent to A & E by the district nurse as a precaution. They checked it out and decided that it had been caused by a haematoma and a seroma that had formed after surgery and pushed against the wound. They couldn't re-stitch because of an infection risk so the wound was packed and dressed to allow healing from the inside out. I was given iodine plasters and waterproof dressings to use. District nurse checked the wound once a week to make sure that it had started to heal. I think it took about 4 weeks all in. It was never sore, just a bit of a nuisance.
I hope that you get sorted and all is well.
Thanks to yourself and BlueBlue. District nurse called and said she couldn’t see any infection and it looked as through wound she could see it had healed internally. My surgeon and stoma nurse have said no packing of wound or covering as district nurse did on first wound opening and they said to remove? All seem to have different opinions. District nurse is however going to have a word with my own drs.
