I'm having tests for bowel cancer and I'm really worried. My mother and sister both died at 56 of bowel cancer and I'm 57. I'm waiting for the colonoscopy which is soon but I'm so worried.
No wonder you are worried, I think this is the worst time is the waiting and not knowing, But try to stay positive you have your colonoscopy soon which is a positive thing may I ask was this picked up on a routine screen Fit test?, because of your family history.

Hi no after my sister passed I had a colonoscopy and they were happy to just let me be and see the Dr's if I was worried. This happened because I had my smear test and was really sore. I'd mentioned that I've been having lower left abdomen pain and a pain at the top of my left leg. The gp tried to do a digital examination but couldn't. I saw the consultant last week and neither could they. I just don't know what to make of it all
That is a lot to process and I am sorry to hear about your situation . I just want to assure you that most people here have navigated through a cancer diagnosis and out the other side and even in the last two years new treatments have been used to assist . I can see why you are feeling it .
However once you are through this I think you might like to have a chat with your GP about setting up a good screening program for you . Our helpline staff can help with all aspects of this and would be happy to chat through the emotional aspects waiting for an investigation .

Everyone here gets it . I get petrified even doing the bowel screen having observed my mum’s treatment. She is 12 2/3 years since a stage 4 diagnosis. I know screening saved her life but it fills me with fear . We are only human .
