For the last couple of days when my husband opens his bowels he has noticed a fair bit of maroon blood when wiping himself afterwards .
his stools are normal although slightly darker in colour and he has no other symptoms
he phoned the drs today and was expecting them to just say oh that’s nothing to worry about but they are sending out a fit test and booking him in for blood tests
shortly after he had a bout of diarrhoea which was mainly blood ( I’m thinking the diarrhoea could be related to worrying about it all )
he phoned the dr back and is getting an appointment for Monday so the dr can feel his tummy but in the meantime as you can imagine we are both worried sick
any thoughts anyone ?
Hi Worried03
Welcome to the forum . The science for rectal bleeding is around 10% of all rectal bleeding is due to cancer . The other 90% from other non cancerous conditions . I have lots count how many frightened people come through here and thankfully the a lot of people do not have cancer .
Cancer caught early in the bowel can be very treatable in a lot of people so please know that lots of people here have come through it and safely back on with their life plans .
Thinking of you both . Our helpline staff are happy to chat through any issues .0808 808 0000.

Yes , here’s a Macmillan information leaflet that will explain it better than I can but it seems to also say one in ten results in a cancer diagnosis.
Google has to be interpreted. My mum was diagnosed back in 2009 and not only has a lot changed since then but some research has been cancelled by progress in the field so we always advise to check the dates , stick to reliable sources like NHS , Macmillan and Bowel cancer U.K. . Normally all kept up to date . Also my mum was a late stage diagnosis back in 2009 with a spread to her liver . She is still here . Bowel cancer has a few strings to it’s bow in terms of treatment .
We have all fallen down the Google hole but it pays to remember Dr Google would definitely need to go on remedial training for failing to keep up to date .

Please don’t worry about that . I thought it was very wise indeed ! We all know exactly how these tests affect the emotions .
I think other conditions can have quite a lot of volume too . They can’t tell until they do the scope to see what area is causing the bleed . My mum’s friend had blood from diverticulitis.
Hope that helps some and thanks for your good wishes for my mum .

Had the drs appointment ( although it was a nurse ) he had taken a photo of the colour of the blood which he showed her ) she said she can't guarantee it's not something serious but there are no red flag symptons which is good . Hes had to send a sample off which will take up to 2 weeks to come back which will tell us more . She said it could be a digestive infection but who knows x
