Hi all,
im 62 and have had bowel issues all my adult life. I had a stoma 40 years ago but they left the rectum in, 7 years ago I had life changing complications during a hysterectomy which has left me with an abdominal fistula so life is difficult.
I Used to have regular sigmoidoscopy but in recent years I haven’t. I have had mri though and the only thing that has shown up on the rectum is proctitis. Last month I had a pelvic mri in a different health board and they have reported without a comparison MRI. They have picked something up and I now need a biopsy. I’m really worried as obviously I’m thinking it’s cancer. It could be displasia or it could be nothing,
my daughter gets married in 5 weeks, they’ve said there is no rush for biopsy but can anyone offer any words of support. I’m worried sick and totally stressed about the wedding anyway with 2 stoma bags, one of which leaks all the time.
thanks everyone
Hi Chachacha
Welcome to the forum . If I am reading this correctly you have a change of location who have inspected your scan in isolation from previous baseline scans . Is that correct ?
Obviously the biopsy makes for good practice but I think I would be asking for your current scan to be compared against previous scans . Our helpline staff might be able to guide you on how to proceed . 0808 808 0000. My mum has had extensive surgery from bowel , liver and lung resections . Her scans are very complicated to read and I would want them reviewed against previous scans as nothing is quite right in there anymore and needs experience and properly evaluated against prior information . Just my opinion but that’s what you are looking for to help reduce your concern prior to an happy event .
A wedding sounds wonderful and I hope nothing comes in the way of that !
Enjoy every minute .

Hi Chachacha
i just wanted to say hello and try and offer you some support. Sadly I can’t advice you on the medical side but if I can help you with your bags I will. That certainly will help you enjoy your daughters wedding.
There’s nothing worse than those things demanding attention all of the time
Ask any questions about that or join the stoma support.
We have amazing tips there from others having two stoma’s.
Take care
Ann
Thank you so much. I’ve had my stoma 40 years and it’s ok but the complications caused an abdominal fistula so it comes out on my abdomen, different to a stoma as it’s recessed so bags aren’t easy to manage. Thank you I will look out the stoma group to see if anyone else in a similar position,
thanks again x
Hi Court,
yes it was a mri in a different health board. Long story but my complications made like every difficult as I developed a fistula so had to go to a hospital out of my health board. Plus I went private as I couldn’t get any answers it all became horrendously complex. My local gastro then asked for a pelvic mri but they didn’t ask for the others health board to c9mpare. I am fed up to be hinest, it’s been an awful 7 years and just when I was feeling a little more settled this happens. I think the wedding is heightening my anxieties which isn’t helping .
thank you very much for your comment Court
