Diagnosed with Rectal Cancer and i,ll soon be starting Chemoradiotherapy.
When my consultant gave me my diagnosis he also asked how i was & that fitting a Stoma Bag was an option if i was really struggling.
At the time i was not to bad so decided against it, but over the last week things have got really bad & am in a lot of pain after eating & trying to go to the toilet.
I think i just need reassurance that getting a Stoma is the way to go?
Anyone got some advice?
Many thanks.
So sorry you have found yourself in this position.why not have a look at the iliostomy, colostomy and stoma thread.
You can click on names to read bios and read some of the questions and answers.
Might give you some ideas of the questions you might like to ask.
Do click on katz at the top of this if you think it might help.

Hi like Katz51 says there’s so much advice there. I had an Ileostomy’ after a LAR op.
Any questions or concerns ask away. I hope that you are feeling okay, I remember being so uncomfortable for such a long time I had rectal cancer which caused pressure over everything I ate
Take care

Hi Neilga. Yes definately discuss this with them today - you do not need to be in pain or risk a bowel blockage. There’s lots of support on the stoma board and I know Chromeplated has just had 1 fitted to relieve his symptons

Hi Neilga
I was close to begging for a stoma when my constipation was so bad because of my tumour.
Now I have a permanent stoma after treatment and surgery (and now in surveillance) I catch myself thinking how much of a relief it is without that constant feeling of needing a poo and the pain.
I was put on a low residue diet and on laxido's which help relieve a lot of my constipation before and during treatment.
Good luck with it all.
Kev
