Hi folks
I'd like to ask, since I had my bowel cancer op last November, I just can't seem to get motivated,, I also have spinal scoliosis, I am finding walking a short distance very sore and get out of breath quickly, I have wondered if maybe going to the gym each week to walk on the tread Mill and bike, does anyone else go to the gym that wares a stoma bag, xx
Hi greente. Going to the gym sounds a good idea to me? I must admit I never got back into it after my treatment but I don’t see why the bag should be a problem? I know some health authorities offer fitness classes for people recovering from cancer so you could try contacting your Colorectal/Stoma nurse to see if there’s anything like that near you?
Let us know how you get on
Take care
Karen x
Thankyou I never thought of that, I will get intouch with them tomorrow ️. Not looking to be super fit lol but would like to have more energy to get round the supermarket without stopping for a break as I get breathless, and when I get down on my hands and knees to cle
something I can't get back up
 thanks for the advice
Hope you are keeping well xx
Hi greente
i feel the same. It’s just so hard to get motivated to exercise isn’t it.
But the Spring is approaching some blue sky and sunshine may get us up and going.
Have you tried Callanetics?
I did it years ago and it had amazing results truly. I think it’s been refreshed updated I may check it out myself. I don’t have scoliosis however I’m very tall and worked with children. It protected my back beautifully
I’m thinking of getting back to the gym too. I liked meeting new people more than the exercises oh and the restaurant!
take care
Ann
Hi greente. Just found this link on the nhs colostomy site too x
when the weather is bad walking up and down the stairs is really good (as long as you don't live in a bungalow). When I returned to work after first op our lift was out of order and I had to climb 91 stairs. Slowly but surely what started as near impossible became easy. I was so proud when I got to the top and not be out of breath. Stairs were the biggest difficulty for me.
