Has anyone tried successfully to get travel insurance to travel worldwide with terminal cancer as I am finding it hard to find someone to take me.  In the US you have to have travel insurance apparently.  Also want to go to the Maldives.  Any help would be gratefully received.  Thank you

    Hi

    Welcome to the forum !

I have added a link to a forum and I think you will get assistance there . Because I am a CC I can’t say specifically what insurance companies my mum used as it could be seen as endorsement but anything you need to know is available there !

Just to reassure you we did travel with my mum as a stage 4 patient . Around Europe though and certain areas were cheaper than others depending on the health care available in each country .

Initial quote was substantial but lessen when I asked nearer the time . You will need all your medication , diagnosis to hand !

The company my mum used paused over lockdown but hopefully that has resolved !

    Happy travels !

  • hi Rick 1882, my Stoma nurse recommended a good, inexpensive travel insurance company - can't remember who they are - it's been a while since our last holiday. That might be an idea.

  • Hi .   I used a company called All Clear to travel to the US a few weeks ago and they weren’t hugely expensive, not compared to some quotes I received.  I hope you get there.

Thank you and yes I know someone else who used them too I found out today so I will call them nearer the time as the online form is confusing as I don't want to go yet but at least I know I can call them nearer the time and get insurance as I will be having a break from the Chemo at that point so I can have the PICC line removed.

  • Hi Rick

Definitely call them rather than attempt any online form filling would be my recommendation. It’s much easier to talk things through with a real person. We call our insurance company before every trip we make with an update and it’s worked well to do that. I’m booked for the Maldives in a couple of months, so will ring up beforehand just to make sure we are good to go. I hope you manage to sort something out to be able to travel.

Thank you Sarah.  Yes that on my list too so be interested what price you get but I was thinking if you don't need insurance to travel to some countries if it's too expensive I wont bother. Although with my condition terminal in 12-18 months it might be trickier.  Not sure if we are doing Maldives or Vegas first in May / June and the other in October / November Slight smile

  • We have been really lucky with ours I think, which is through our bank. I was due to travel to Bali the day I was diagnosed with cancer and they paid out without any hassle. On my first trip abroad after first line treatment they covered me for everything but my cancer as I hadn’t been clear for 6 months. It was Europe so I wasn’t too bothered. Subsequent trips I have been fortunate enough to be NED after surgery, so have never even had an increased premium. It can be harder with your prognosis, but I really hope you can get something. May is a good month for the Maldives!

  • I used Insurance With for worldwide cover. I have a terminal diagnosis with a prognosis of a year or less.
