  • Hello Pippa

Its a frightening time. That flight or fight feeling makes you feel anxious and scared. I’m so glad that you’ve found this group. Try and focus on one thing at a time. Saturday is not long which is a big  positive, waiting for a long time just drags out the anxiety.
There will be others here to give their support. You can click on names to read people bio if it helps

Any questions if I can help I will

Take care sending you a hug

  • Hi , Yes there will be a flurry of scans and tests but it’s all so your team has the full picture when discussing your treatment plan. I think I started my chemoradiotherapy treatment a month after my colonoscopy!
Take a deep breath and remember it’s all part of the plan to get rid of the tumour so you can get on with your life. Sending you a big virtual hug

    Take care

  • Hi Pippa

i got really nervous about my scan & it was only New Years Day just gone.
Didn’t know what to expect, panicked about getting my wedding ring off when I didn’t even need to

clothes with no metal it’s all scary in itself without what it will find.

Anyway it’s really is a simple proceedure I learnt & is over really quickly..

You most likely won’t get your result straight away but things happen quickly & what everyone tells you that it’s easier to deal with once you know the score is really true. The not knowing kills you.

    stay positive always it works

know just where you are but you will cope with it all like the trooper you are Heart

  • Hope this is ok to ask why did you have chemoradiotherapy first then the operation.

I thought it would be other way around

  • Thank you Jane xx

  • Hi . Your treatment will depend on where the tumour is. Tumours in the rectum are often treated with radiotherapy before surgery to shrink them as small as possible which allows the surgeon to remove it cleanly with clear margins ie. some of the clear area around it. The chemo part is in tablet form and enhances the effect of the radiotherapy. If there are any lymph nodes affected in the histology ie. lab report after the tumour has been removed then there may be follow up chemo x
